Ollie vs ActOnCue
ActOnCue is a capable reader for auditions, self-tapes and line learning, metered by usage. Ollie is built around learning a whole part and knowing when you've got it. We make Ollie, so read this knowing that. Everything we say about ActOnCue comes from their own public pages, linked at the bottom.

Why pick Ollie
It tracks what you've learned
Test me hides your lines, scores each one you say, and builds a per-line record. ActOnCue has strong tools for practicing with hidden text, but we didn't find progress or mastery tracking on the pages we read.
Your cast can rehearse together
Castmates join a group session from their own devices and Ollie reads the missing parts. We didn't find an equivalent in ActOnCue's pages.
No voice fee on a long part
ActOnCue charges $0.19 a minute the first time it generates an AI voice, and your own recordings are free. Ollie's standard voices run in your browser, so they have no generation fee. Premium voices are a paid feature.

What's here, and what's next
Group mode
Available nowYour cast joins from their own devices and rehearses the same scene together, wherever they are. Ollie reads any part nobody's covering.
Director mode
Coming soonDirectors upload the play, invite their cast into their roles, and see each actor's rehearsal time and memorization progress, then leave line notes and role notes right on the script. Cast members can join just for that production and keep their own Ollie account too.
iOS app
Coming soonOllie already runs in your iPhone's browser. An iOS app is on the way.
Self-tape
Coming soonOllie reads the other parts while you put yourself on tape, so the scene you've learned is the scene you record.
What ActOnCue does well
- Self-tape and a native iPhone and iPad app today. Both are coming soon to Ollie.
- Open sign-up, while Ollie is in an invite-only beta.
- Photo and audio import, free human recordings for any part, a teleprompter, an AI acting coach, and multiple languages.
What it costs
ActOnCue charges for what you use: $0.19 per minute of generated AI voice, $0.35 per hour of Perform, and $0.01 per page for PDF and image imports. Listen sessions and your own recordings are free, though AI voices still cost $0.19 a minute to generate. Once a line is generated, replaying it is free, so a scene costs most the first time.
A full-length play has much more text for the voices to read, so that first pass grows with it: 90 minutes of other people's lines would be about $17 at that rate, and their $10 monthly plan includes $15 of usage. Ollie's standard voices run in your browser, which is why rehearsing with them has no per-minute charge.
Privacy
Both apps send your script to cloud AI providers to parse it and store it on their servers, and both say they don't train AI models on it. ActOnCue says its providers don't either. One difference: Ollie's free standard voices are generated in your browser, so that voice step doesn't send your lines anywhere. Premium voices and speech transcription do use cloud providers.
For the details, read Ollie's privacy policy and ActOnCue's.
See for yourself
The best way to judge a scene partner is to run a scene. Try one in Ollie's demo, with no sign-up. If you're about to learn a full part, our guide to learning a whole play will help whichever app you use.
Try a scene now, then bring your script.
Upload your script and Ollie reads every other part out loud, waits for you to say your lines, and keeps track of the ones you've really learned. Ollie is in an invite-only beta, and the demo needs no sign-up.
