Ollie vs ScenePartner

ScenePartner is a self-tape reader, and its plans count auditions and pages. Ollie is built for the long haul of learning a whole script. We make Ollie, so read this knowing that. Everything we say about ScenePartner comes from their own public pages, linked at the bottom.

Why pick Ollie

  • Made for whole scripts

Upload the full play as a PDF or Word file up to 25 MB, or a text file up to 10 MB, and pick the scenes you want. Scanned PDFs are read up to 100 pages. ScenePartner caps scripts at 10 pages on its Free and Plus plans and 150 on Pro.

  • It tracks what you've learned

ScenePartner can hide or fade your lines, or show first letters. Ollie can hide them or show first letters. Test me adds a score for each line and a record over time, which we didn't find on ScenePartner's pages.

  • Rehearse live with your cast

Castmates join a group session from their own devices, and Ollie reads whoever's missing. ScenePartner lets friends record their lines ahead of time, which is a different thing from being in the room together.

What's here, and what's next

  • Group mode

    Available now

Your cast joins from their own devices and rehearses the same scene together, wherever they are. Ollie reads any part nobody's covering.

  • Director mode

    Coming soon

Directors upload the play, invite their cast into their roles, and see each actor's rehearsal time and memorization progress, then leave line notes and role notes right on the script. Cast members can join just for that production and keep their own Ollie account too.

  • iOS app

    Coming soon

Ollie already runs in your iPhone's browser. An iOS app is on the way.

  • Self-tape

    Coming soon

Ollie reads the other parts while you put yourself on tape, so the scene you've learned is the scene you record.

What ScenePartner does well

  • Self-tape and an iOS app today. Both are coming soon to Ollie.
  • Friends can record lines once, so you can rehearse with their real voices.
  • Open sign-up, published pricing, and programs for students and educators.

What it costs

ScenePartner's plans are built around auditions: 3 free, then 10 a month on Plus or 100 a month on Pro, with takes unlimited. Scripts are capped at 10 pages until you reach Pro. For a steady run of short sides, that structure makes sense.

A stage role doesn't look like that. You have one long script and months of repetition. Ollie is free to start, its standard voices run in your browser with no per-minute charge, and free accounts have limits including one active script and three scored Test me runs a week. We haven't published paid plan prices yet.

Privacy

ScenePartner's FAQ says it never shares your scripts, opens them only to troubleshoot, and doesn't train AI models on your voice data. Its terms let it train its own models on aggregated service data unless you opt out. Ollie sends your script to AI providers to parse it, and says it doesn't use scripts or voice to train AI models. Its standard voices are generated in your browser, while premium voices and speech transcription use cloud providers.

For the details, read Ollie's privacy policy and ScenePartner's.

See for yourself

The best way to judge a scene partner is to run a scene. Try one in Ollie's demo, with no sign-up. If you're about to learn a full part, our guide to learning a whole play will help whichever app you use.

Try a scene now, then bring your script.

Upload your script and Ollie reads every other part out loud, waits for you to say your lines, and keeps track of the ones you've really learned. Ollie is in an invite-only beta, and the demo needs no sign-up.
